I have known Danielle Asher for four years. She initially served on an advisory board for a project I lead, but this relationship evolved as Danielle stepped up to take on additional responsibilities. Recently, we have co-designed and co-presented in workshops and have co-authored book chapters. Working with Danielle has been one of the great pleasures of my professional life. She is a critical thinker, a problem-solver, a relationship-builder, and an expert facilitator. She is always oriented toward improvement in everything she does, whether deepening the impact of a workshop, improving a draft of a written piece, or ensuring that everyone feels heard and supported. She routinely asks questions that push the work to a deeper level. Where other people might get stuck, Danielle quickly imagines solutions on the spot to tensions and challenges. I have had the pleasure to work with Danielle for the past two years. She co-facilitated our Family Leadership Academy in the Roosevelt UFSD under the My Brothers Keeper Family and Community Engagement grant. Danielle was easy to work with and assist our parents, family and community members by teaching them the importance of advocacy. Additionally, they learned how to establish a reciprocal relationship with our school district and increased their knowledge of equity over equality. I found her to be a people person, dependable and trustworthy. She would be a phenomenal asset to your organization.  

Danielle is a true advocate for the individuals and families she works with. Her integrity and her unwillingness to compromise her authenticity is what makes her the best person to work with. Danielle's authenticity comes from her willingness to be honest with herself and others even in the most difficult of spaces. Danielle Asher is a remarkable person. When we first met, she was running the Family Leadership Network, a project that offered parent leadership development programs across Long Island. As an evaluator, I had visited other sites that offered a similar program, but none had replicated it in so many other local municipalities or created such an effective network of activists that was tackling statewide issues, such as the school-to-prison pipeline. 

Not only is Danielle a highly competent executive with a management style that empowers others rather than attempts to control them, she is also a visionary leader. She has a deep passion for social justice combined with a realistic pragmatism that gets things done. She is insightful, resourceful, and delightful to work with. If I were on the committee that awards MacArthur Foundation genius grants, I would recommend her to anyone who is thinking about hiring her or supporting her work. I have had the honor and pleasure of working with Danielle for 10 years on various advocacy and organizing initiatives across Long Island. In all of her efforts, Danielle can meld an understanding of the root causes of structural inequality while also building leadership amongst populations impacted by structural poverty and racism. Her intuition and core belief in social justice make her a committed and trusted partner. After a vision I had to create a network of moms and families who wanted to keep their kids connected to culture, Danielle was instrumental in offering me guidance, mentoring, and support in setting up the framework for Latina Moms of Long Island, which is now; Latina Moms Connect. Her continued mentorship on how to strategically build partnerships, transparency, and messaging has been key to the long standing positive and credible relationships we’ve established throughout the six years we’ve existed. Danielle is skilled, passionate, strategic, and aware of how to support leaders, communities, organizations, and parent groups to be successful in establishing realistic goals and taking the measurable steps to achieve success.  Some of what she did for us include: programmatic frameworks, board development, partnership development, and more.
